CCBA hosts open hives monthly from May through September. These provide a great opportunity for hands-on learning. Experienced beekeepers lead a guided inspection of a hive, demonstrating hive activities, splits, nuc making, mite treatment application and other essential tasks specific to the season. These are member-only events and we ask that you bring a veil. Directions to the host locations are sent out via Google Group emails prior to the event. They usually begin at 10:00 AM.

Special guest Chris Rogers of Backwoods Bee Farm will be guiding us through wrangling of our now monster hives 😊 feeling pretty good about getting them through a long winter of feeding, but they are ALL booming. Hoping the Russian hive didn’t swarm after the sentinel sampling last week, but we shall see if our efforts to slow worked.
We hope to go through some splitting and possibly follow with a formic treatment If warranted.

This is always a great Open Hive especially for new Beekeepers. Multiple hives are opened by multiple beekeepers all at the same time. Makes for smaller groups, better visibility, and easier Q&A.
